“This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.”
The Father openly affirmed his son, the Lord Jesus. Every father should do the same for his own sons. You have no idea the blessing this loyal son is to me.

Lois and Wes
Lois and Wes together today. It was a beautiful spring day and we ventured out to a park for some fresh air and pictures. I have never looked forward to spring like this year.

Pastor Chen March 28, 2005
Pastor Chen spent eighteen years in a prison work camp in China. Because he came from a background of moderate wealth and opportunity the guards at the camp worked hard to break his spirit and indoctrinate him. He was so hungry at times that he was tempted to eat toothpaste. He was separated from his wife and his young church. While he was in prison, his wife died.

Non-Violence March 21, 2005
I had a friend. I say “had” because we moved away. If we still lived close I know we would still be close friends. I know if I was ever in Walhounding, Ohio there would be a place at Bobby and Marie Yoder’s table. There would be a generous portion and lively conversation for me and all my family at the Yoder household.

Green Mountain Farm March 15, 2005

This is the kind of book I would like to write someday. Delightful. Delightful. Merrick has ties to Sir Wilfred Grenfell…. what a story. Elliott Merrick’s wife Kate Austen worked in Labrador in Grenfell’s mission. He then wrote the story of her experience in NORTHERN NURSE…. According to Elizabeth Elliot in the preface to the Journals of Jim Elliot, Grenfell inspired a whole generation of missionary adventurers.
Bonar’s Morning Rules March 14, 2005
Here is an interesting quote from J. H. Jowett’s Yale Lectures on Preaching, “The Preacher, His Life and Work.” I read this Saturday night while preparing my heart for the pulpit: Andrew Bonar wrote in his journal… “By the grace of God and the strength of His Holy Spirit I desire to lay down the rule not to speak to man until I have spoken to God: not to do anything with my hand until I have been upon my knees: not to read letters or papers until I have read something of the Holy Scriptures…”
Jowett also included this quote from Bonar’s journal: “In prayer in the wood for some time, having set apart three hours for devotion: felt drawn out much to pray for that peculiar fragrance which believers have about them, who are very much in fellowship with God.”
Impossible to Ignore
Our first-born is an especially diligent young man. Even when he was just a lad you could count on him to attack a job and bring it to completion. One summer afternoon I asked him to vacuum out the van. He eagerly ran, got the vacuum and an extension chord and went to work. He did a great job, but that was not the end of the story.

A Gentle Place to Fall March 1, 2005
One year in apple-blossom and flowering Dogwood time I glanced out the window to see my neighbor Dave conducting a sacred rite of passage. He was teaching his little girl to ride her bike without training wheels. I got a lump in my throat at the sweetness of the memory of teaching my three older daughters to ride their bikes. I only have one left to teach, after that it will be my grand daughters by God’s good grace.
