For the Love of Preaching April 28, 2005

Yesterday I stumbled on a treasure. I found Don Denyes new book on the life of Howard Sugden at the Baker Bookstore in Grand Rapids. Sugden was a Michigan pastor and a popular, spirited conferance speaker. I heard him speak myself once in his later years. He preached with obvious skill and passion. The author now pastors the church where Sugden had his greatest ministry.

I read this book within a few hours of buying it, thanks to my wife’s capable driving skills. As we travelled across our beloved Michigan last night I read the story of one of her native sons who was used of God as a pastor and conference speaker.

Saved? April 25, 2005

I have a friend. He is a thoughtful man who has considered spiritual things. His background is with a church that teaches salvation comes from faith and works together. He says he can’t imagine that salvation is free, that there is not something that we have to do to earn it. The Bible, specifically in the Book of Romans, clearly says otherwise. His church does not consider the Bible the final authority.

Carrot Cake April 18, 2005

Some of my very best ideas come to me while I am preaching. I first noticed this twenty-nine years ago in the pulpit of Pleasant Ridge Bible Church near Ft. Recovery, Ohio. The other night I was preaching in a little town in Illinois and a great idea popped into my head. I asked those in attendance, “How many of you here have a recipe for carrot cake?

New Book April 4, 2005

Sacred Stories and Srong Families: A Dad’s Delightful Duty.

I just fininshed a new book. I am looking for some help and exploring publishing options now. Here is a little information on the book.

–ONE delightful command God has given to every father
–SEVEN things that happen when fathers obey that command
–FOUR specific ways to obey the commnd
–OVER A DOZEN personal stories

This book is about how a father can pass on to his children a faith in the reality of a living God.

Would you be interested in a book like that? I am looking for some reviewers who would read it and contribute their own stories.

If you are interested, write me at ken@kenpieront.com.

Take in the View

When I was about fourteen we took a family vacation through the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. When you drive through the Smokies there are winding roads all through the mountains. It is, in places, beautiful beyond description. I mean to return someday and share the beauty with my family.
