New Pic of Kyle Kenneth September 28, 2007
In case you like pictures of beautiful babies..
[This is a letter to my grandson. I’m going to let you read it because there is something we can all learn from him].
Morning, little man. This weekend we were together more than we ever have been in your short four months on earth. I was speaking for a Father-Daughter Retreat at Camp Barakel. I don’t expect you to remember it so I want to tell you some of the things I noticed. Your mom and four aunts and I were there with Karilee, who is going to marry Uncle Chuk. Camp Barakel is the place where your mom and dad met a few years ago. (I saw your mom first and kinda’ nudged your mom and dad together. It wasn’t hard). (more…)
Autumnlight
The last two days have been glorious autumn days–gifts from the Lord. I was out taking a few minutes to write and read and drink in one of the most beautiful fall days ever. I could have taken a thousand stunning pictures of autumn glory. This was taken on the north end of the lake yesterday.
This evening after dinner I had some time before the evening meeting to paddle out on a silky purple lake to enjoy the afterglow of the sunset. Later, in the session, I was able to share the powerful story of Wilfred Grenfel. We are ministering to a great group of young men and women. Many of them are involved in exciting ministried to others.
Worship in the Northwoods September 25, 2007
Last weekend I spent at Camp Barakel with Holly, Heidi, Hannah, Hope, Elizabeth (Kyle’s wife), Karilee (soon to be Chuk’s wife) and baby Kyle Kenneth. Sunday we drove back to Chicago, Monday to the Northwoods to speak at a staff retreat and the Eternal Impact Summit. This morning I made the four-mile run around the lake. This is an example of what I feasted my spirit on as I ran.
The Turning of the Seasons September 19, 2007
Can you hear the voice of God calling to you in the sweet turning of the seasons? I always have. Since I was a little boy on my way to school kicking leaves piled on the sidewalk, smelling the first wood fires of fall, I have had a mystic urge, a Godward pull on my spirit when the seasons change. Floor and Coffee September 18, 2007
My son is a man of modest means like his dad. He and his little family occupy and wee apartment just big enough for the three of them and little else. I was driving across parts of three states the other night and it was getting late so I stopped by to see if I could get a pillow, and a blanket, and a spot on the floor. It took a while but after waking a kind neighbor at about one a.m. I finally found his apartment and within a half hour I was sleeping soundly in the middle of the floor. (more…)
Sigurd F. Olson September 11, 2007
This year I have spend a good deal of time in Wisconsin. A great northern writer was Sigurd F. Olson. Lately I’ve been enjoying some of his writing. You might enjoy this clip.
Lois and I have returned from Door County, Wisconsin where we spent two beautiful blustry autumn days celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary. We enjoyed some good food, some time before the fire, a few bookstores, and many, many pictures.
Helping with the Harvest September 10, 2007
Holmes County, Ohio is Ohio Amish Country. It is beautiful any time of the year, but it is especially beautiful at harvest time. Harvest is hard work for any farm family, but it is especially intense for Amish farmers who do not use modern farm equipment. David Kline is an Amish farmer with a large family, but even with a large family there is enough work at harvest time to exhaust everyone and the dairy cows still have to be milked before daylight even during harvest time. My Wife’s Pictures September 6, 2007
We are in lovely Red Wing, Minnesota this weekend performing a wedding for Shane Felber and Jenny Erickson. Tonight we will drive along the Mississippi home. It should be a beautiful drive. In the morning we will preach at Momence and tomorrow night we will preach at IBLP Headquarters. Lois took this photo of the stained glass window. I wish I could post a file of the pipe organ in all it’s glory. It sounds as beautiful as this widow looks.
To see more beautiful pictures.
Autumn on Wolf Lake
You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. (Psa 16:11 NKJV)
Last night I preached to a large group of college students in the Northwoods. There is something beautiful about young men and women who are seeking God with all their hearts. It is stirring to rise early in the morning and see young people all over the grounds praying and spending time with the Lord.
Matthew Henry said: “The flower of youth never appears more beautiful than when it bends toward the sun of righteousness.”
Here in the Northwoods and we are enjoying the first hints of autumn. Last year when I was speaking here for the Eternal Impact Summit I took this picture from Duck Point, where we were staying. Duck Point is a beautiful home built on land that juts out into the middle of the lake.
