December 16, 1995 was a Saturday. My message needed work. Our church occupied a little Grange Hall West of Mt. Vernon, Ohio just off State Route 229. North of the church was a wood wrapped around a pond. My study window looked out from high on the wall of the church over the pleasant field and the wood and the pond. I would sometime watch deer come to water there.
When I arrived at the church that morning it was cold.

I like to stick with Christmas themes in December, but I want to get you this link quick. Some of you have asked me what I thought about the Twilight novels aimed at young women. I once heard a pastor say that it is wise to put a biblical “filter” on all your media. The people at brio have done a good job helping young people think through these romance books. Last night we had dinner with Collin, his parents, and grandparents. He is about a year-and-a-half old – an adorable little boy. We all gathered around the table for our meal and he prayed. He started on his own, “Jesus,” then his mother coached him through his prayer a few words at a time. My heart went back to when our children were so wonderfully small and we hung on every little attempt at a word.
Our Father cherishes our prayers. When kids get older their words and their prayers …
