My Journal: Baby Blocks, Quilting & Springtime!
Date: Thursday November 9, 2006Posted in: My Journal
I now have a camera and can share things by picture and words. So I thought I would share a picture or two of the quilt blocks I am working on…a very special project.
All the fabric is from my Grandma. Last summer she took me down to her basement and gave me tons of her fabric! Some of it is vintage. She said I could take whatever I wanted so I did. As you can see here I got all the blocks cut out and all the nine patch blocks done I just need to sew it all together. Yes, I am thrilled…it’s gonna be a beautiful Baby!! Kyle said when they saw there little “peanut” as they call it, it was just moving like crazy. It’s head was bobbing and it’s arm buds and legs were moving! How cute.

Here is a picture I have hanging in my room. This is SO important! To teach children in the ways of God. This has always been a deep hearts desire and so and I had to get this picture when I saw it. It has one of the most beautiful Bible verses on it - Isaiah 54:13 “All your children shall be taught by the Lord and great shall be the peace of your children” This is something I will always have on the walls of my home to remind me of this beautiful promise.
I am going to be making this baby quilt for Kyle and Elizabeth. I like to think that the fabric for this quilt came from the Baby’s Great Grandma. They will Lord willing need it this May..I think the colors look like Spring! And to think that this sweet little one will be “taught of the Lord”! I love that thought. That is a beautiful promise from the Lord.

What wonderful news. God is good. The quilt looks like it will be a work of art. So good to read your posts, Holly.

Hi Holly, We know your family from going to the Character Inn and Camp Barakel. My daughter Hannah reads your sight and I saw you mention beading. I teach a homeschool girls class on beading and wanted to pass some info to you. I first tied on clasps until someone showed me how to use crimp beads. You buy Tiger Wire at Michaels or JoAnns and string beads on that. Also buy a bag of crimp beads (size 2.5 , 99cents for 50 at JoAnns), first slide on a crimp bead, let it rest on 2 fingers down about 2 inches from the end, then poke the end through the hole in the clasp for attatching, then back around and through the crimp bead again. Then slide the crimp bead down next to the clasp. That will hold it together while you make something. String on beads putting the first few beads over the tail as well so its completely hidden, when done, with the beads, slide on another crimp bead at the other end, then put that tail end through clasp and back around through the crimp bead, continue on through 2 or 3 beads. Then pull the “tail” out, now one hand holds the clasp and the other the tail, (sometimes it works better to hold the tail end with a needle nose plier to get a better grip), now pull both hands in opposite directions and the beads should slide up to fill in the gaps, sometimes you have to move the crimp bead down if it locks in close to the clasp when your’re pulling in opposite directions. Try on to make sure it’s the right length, then take you needle nose pliers and squeeze the crimp flat. This is what holds the bracelet or necklace together, no knots. Make sure you can’t move the crimp bead at all and you’ll know it’s tight enough. Last, cut that tail that was sticking out. I have some great pictures of this that I’ve picked up from Hobby Lobby and JoAnns if you’d like I could mail them to you. Hope this helps, beading is a lot of fun, and makes nice gifts. Have fun, Julie Hinds
