I just got a call from a dear friend. He is a pastor. He needs to lose some weight. He read that I need to lose some weight. He challenged me to a weight-loss race. He has to lose 30 pounds. I need to lose 40 pounds. Here’s the deal: the first one to his goal is the winner (the big loser). The prize is this a hard-bound edition of Lectures to My Students by Charles Spurgeon published by Banner of Truth.
I have a copy but mine is an old tattered paperback version that looks like this. So you can imagine how excited I am about having a nice, new copy to read when I go to speak at camps this summer.
(Pastor “you-know-who” I will not reveal your identity unless you want me to, but you might want to start saving your money now because I speak at Lake Ann in mid-July and I plan to take my fresh, new, book with me).

I will be praying that you will; delight your soul in Christ, discipline your body and daily be accountable to someone, as you run this race. God bless.
Ken
Thanks so much. I appreciate your prayers. Wow, do I need them.
Terry
Pastor Ken,
I will surely pray for you as you work on this challenge. I realize how hard it is to face the certain and devastating defeat that is coming. May God give you the grace to lose to this ‘pastor who shall remain nameless.’
BTW that book will really look nice on my shelves. I have a spot in mind for it.
Ken
I smoked you out, Terry. Are you going to be at the GARBC Annual Conference. We will have to sit down and have a Jamba Juice or a salad. By then I will be at or near my goal weight.

I went on Quick Weight Loss in December. It is a VERY expensive diet, imvho even though it is advertised as inexpensive. This is the one Rush Limbaugh recommended. For an older person, such as myself, it is working. I have lost 31 pounds. Yeah! That is a lot for me to lose in five months.
I prayed about this a great deal looking to God’s grace to help me. I would not have made it this far if it weren’t for God’s grace. I want to tell you that I remembered your testimony and I believe with all my heart that it is the answer to overcoming – looking to the grace of God through faith.
All you have to do to recognize the problem is to go on a diet. We seem to be at feasts so often because of Doug’s big family and different church events. When folks are feeding large crowds, they usually go for the high carb foods like pasta, pizza, and potatoes. There was another occasion when fried chicken was on the menu. That was so difficult for me to bypass. But God helped me through it and I got past yet another hurdle.
My hope is to maintain. I have gained and lost weight so often. I want to get to a normal weight and stay there. If there were anything that I am hoping that Quick Weight Loss can help me with, it is that, which makes it worth the money. At the end of the day though, it is all because of God’s grace.
Hope you are successful!
Vera
Ken
Vera; Thanks for your story. I am a couple days in and have had God-given self-control. I sense He is helping me. I’m glad to hear you are doing well. May God bless you… and you too, Terry… Terry, you really do want to get serious because you are in a very stiff competition here.
Terry
Well, Ken, you better bring that book the conference, I will be looking forward to it.

Being someone who has fought the battle of the bulge my whole life, I know how it is and I hope both of you reach your desired weight. It is always easier to reach a goal when you have someone else there with you. Good Luck!!! : )
