Hannah Ruth was born at home on December 19th, 1989 at 6:54 a.m. We all celebrated with happy tears that snowy winter morning. I wrote out her birth certificate by hand at the kitchen table that morning. Her name means grace and favor. She has the grace of God on her and her favor and beauty are from the Lord. I love Christmas time. All the decorations, the lights, the fragrances and festive sounds. I love the excitement in the air. I love the feasts and festivals. I love to give and receive gifts. I can’t help but think that one of the regrets of life will be that we did not give more, that we did not retain the generous spirit of Christmas throughout the year.

One Saturday morning in December of 2002 the Pierpont guys made a trip to Lansing from Flint, were we lived at the time. We stopped for coffee, visited a unique guitar shop to drool over the Taylor guitars, and drove downtown to look for a Christmas present for my wife, Lois.
