A few years ago I worked with a pair of brothers in Ohio named Denny and Glenn Allen. They were great guys, farm boys. Best of the best. Just your fine, salt-of-the-earth types. They were talented men just full of horse sense like farm boys tend to be and they were my friends. Both of them made major contributions to my life. I hope I have to theirs too although it’s been about eight years since we worked together.
We started a church together in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. Every once in a while we would work on a project together. They were they guys with the talent. I tried to stay out of the road and keep the troup’s spirits up. Sometimes when we were trying to figure out a problem together one of them would say, “Well, you know what my dad always said, he always said, ?Two heads are better than one, even if they are cabbage heads.’ ”
I’m not really sure why I included that here except that I thought it was funny and I didn’t want to forget to tell you. It’s good to be reminded that the whole world doesn’t depend on me alone. I don’t have to do everything myself. There are always people out there who are willing to help me. Even the Lone Ranger had Tonto. I can’t do everything. I don’t know it all. I don’t know much of anything when you come down to it. So I don’t insist on being the final word or making the final decision.
So if you ever are in a bind and you need some help thinkin’ about something, have a couple a’ farm boys over coffee and get your heads together, even if they are cabbage heads.
