I have been meditating lately on the sweet privilege and holy priority that we have in the prospect of fellowship, union, abiding, communion, and intimacy with God.
What was God’s purpose for creating man but to have the pleasure of fellowship with him and to be glorified in that communion?
What was the greatest beauty of the garden but the fellowship Adam and Eve enjoyed with God as he walked with them in the cool of the day?
What was the greatest tragedy of sin but that it broke fellowship with God and hindered the posterity of Adam and Eve from fellowship, from communion, from walking with God?
What was the purpose of God in sending his Son to Calvary but to restore fellowship and what is repentance but the restoration of fellowship?
What is the essence of the Christian life? Is it a creed, a system, an organization, an ethic, and moral code? No it is a relationship, a fellowship, a communion and love between God and man.
What is the ultimate glory of heaven? Will it not be the presence of Christ and the prospect of walking in unhindered, unbroken, unending fellowship with God?
“Oh, God show me in deeper and deeper ways what it means to have fellowship with you. As I pillow my head tonight visit me with the sweetness of your manifest presence in my very heart. I long for fellowship, for intimacy with You, O God. Fill me with holy love and when I awaken on the Lord’s Day give me a song and a beating heart that is eager to gather with other saints and sing and attend to holy things, and assemble for your worship. Amen “
