It is a wonderful, sunny, Friday morning. I have opened the blinds wide and I am looking out on Blakely “Creek” through my window waiting for the brown trees along the drain to show their spring colors. I was out on a delightful call yesterday and noticed that things are right on the edge bursting into bloom. There is even a hint of green in the grass. They tell me there are eagles in a wildlife refuge not far from here. I am going to see them this spring.
God knows we need a stirring up of new life regularly just as sure as nature depends on springtime for its function. This week I spent some time before sleeping reading of the awakening that came to a community in New England during the ministry of Jonathan Edwards. The story of changed lives and the gospel progress in a community stirs me with longing for spiritual springtime.
Let’s pray and seek the Lord together until he sends springtime to our souls. Then, let’s continue to seek him until He sends a season of refreshing to our church. Then, perhaps, God would be pleased to sweep through our community with a new sense of His presence. Sinners would be converted. The gospel would be received. The Bible would be cherished again. People would see the desire the beauty of Jesus. It would be like springtime, like a touch of heaven on earth.
Lord Jesus, stir us and send springtime to our hearts and homes. Come, Lord Jesus. Come quickly and spread Your dominion through all the ends of the earth. — Amen.
