It is interesting to me that of the sins which brought judgment on Sodom gluttony is listed; “Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food and abundance of idleness” – Ezekiel 16:49.
Three things occur to me when I read this:
First, God takes the sin of gluttony very seriously. It is not a laughing matter with him. Sin brings judgment and gluttony is sin. Sin fouls our fellowship with God, it interrupts out intimacy with God which is at the very core of our soul. It is a serious matter. God wants us to glorify him with the things we eat and the things we drink and everything that we do.
Second, gluttony is a great moral bondage like a person with moral and gender-confusion from which we must have divine deliverance.
Third, I should be as compassionate with a person who struggles with bondage to lust and perversion as I would be with one who struggles with bondage to food.
