This is a weekend we will remember for a long, long time. Kyle came home and we all got up at five on Saturday and headed for our favorite coffee shop in Rockford. After the coffee and huge pecan rolls… (I was able to restrict myself to just a bite of Kyle’s) we spent the first spring-like day skiing at Cannonsburg near Grand Rapids.
Kyle, Chuck, Dan and Wes rode snowboards and I enjoyed a day of downhill skiing. I love the sport even though I have only done it a few times in my life. I especially enjoyed riding the chair lift. I have a theory that it is good for a soul to periodically look on the big things God made. I especially like big water and big hills or mountains. The lift provided a wonderful vista and it was a few minutes of uninterrupted fellowship between a Dad and his boys. A day skiing provided a hundred opportunities to encourage and coach the boys. It was a great day with temperatures in the fifties, clear and sunny. It was too late to do anything about it when we realized that all of us by day’s end had bad sun burns. On the last run Dan got plowed over by the ski patrol which attracted a lot of attention and netted him a free ride on a snowmobile. But other than some bruises he was fine. He has enjoyed reliving it again and again with anyone who will listen. We all tucked a!
fine memory away.
BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS. Since our new ministry began I have had to work to have the time with the boys that I like to have. I feel that the Lord led me to a wonderful little book of ideas that will help me come up with creative ways to spend time with the boys. The book is called “101 Secrets A Good Dad Knows.” It is written by Walter and Sue Ellen Browder and published by Rutledge Hill Press. If you get a chance to grab a copy your children will be glad you did. I’m looking forward to teaching the children useful things like how to tell time by the stars, how to find the North Star, how to build a campfire, how to change oil and how to make the world’s best paper airplane.
