It’s been an exciting week at the Character Inn. The new class of Verity students is arriving from around the country and some new Character Inn staff members are coming in. God has provided thirty-five staff members to work with us this fall. They are all young missionaries. This fall we have formed a development team to create a new program involving intense study of the lives of great Christians and the devotional classics. The program will be for college credit like a Bible Institute. We should be able to invite our first class to begin in January.
As I write this it is Sunday morning I am writing this from a neat little cabin on the grounds of a simple campground where I have been speaking to a group of Mennonite people. It has been refreshingly peaceful. Friday and Saturday night I was able to sleep longer than usual. It was just what I needed. The camp is situated on a beautiful large pond and it has been clear and cool, my favorite weather. At night a waxing moon has risen in the south east sky just over the pond. On the far side of the water is a bridge and a quaint chapel. The fellowship has been sweet and the food abundant.
Twenty-five years ago today I went to a church picnic and saw a girl playing volleyball. She had dark eyes and long beautiful dark brown hair. At the end of the games the young people all gathered by the fire for a devotional time and she stayed behind looking her hair band that had fallen out during the game. I grabbed a flashlight from the car and helped her find it. A year later to the night we were married and I have been helping her find things ever since. I am always so grateful to have her. She didn’t have to settle for me. So today is our twenty-forth anniversary and tomorrow is her birthday.
She agreed to go north with me to speak to at a retreat at Camp Barakel during our special week. I am looking forward to being away with her and ministering with her to the others who are there.
Next Sunday we are going to be at Bethel Baptist Church on the beautiful west coast of Michigan in South Haven. For the next three Sunday mornings and evenings we will be preaching there. If you are in the area and would like to take in the services let us know. We would love to meet you.
