This is Charles… who likes to call himself “Chuk” these days. He is starting to play a pretty good guitar lately. This evening he was in the park when Lois was taking pictures for the Eternal Vision Student Directory so Lois snapped a photo of him… Kinda’ sharp kid, isn’t he?

Lois and I married in September. We moved into a cozy two-bedroom apartment in the upstairs of a farm house in the Ohio countryside. We found a small church and got jobs. I sold furniture. Lois worked at a Fotomat booth. Our plan was to work until spring and then move back to Springfield, Missouri to continue our preparation for ministry.

Sooter Hoople was a bachelor pastor. He was from southern Ohio where the hills roll from Interstate 70 south to the Ohio River. Every year he volunteered to be a counselor at the Christian Union Camp in Greenfield, Ohio. He did this for years and years. He was a counselor when I was a camper.
When I became a counselor, he was still a counselor. Long after I had moved on to marriage and ministry he was a counselor year after year.
