Being Soft on Legalism
Charles Swindoll wrote this about legalists:
“The problem with legalists is that not enough people have confronted them and told them to get lost. Those are strong words, but I don’t mess with legalism anymore. I’m 72 years old; what have I got to lose? Seriously, I used to kowtow to legalists, but they’re dangerous. They are grace-killers. They’ll drive off every new Christian you bring to church. They are enemies of the faith. Other than that, I don’t have any opinion! So, if I am trying to force my personal list of no-no’s on you and make you feel guilty if you don’t join me, then I’m out of line and I need to be told that.”
The older I get the more I see the damage of insisting on personal preferences and binding people to men’s traditions and restrictions. Young people and young believers are often hurt this way and discouraged in their faith. I meet them almost every day.
Legalists want to have a reputation for advanced spirituality, but the mark of maturity is not the number of extra-biblical rules you have. Biblical evidence of genuine spirituality is the fruit of the Spirit…

Joy
Peace
Patience
Kindness
Goodness
Faithfulness
Gentleness
Self-Control
So measure your spirituality by the evidence of the fruit of the Spirit not by the length of your extra-Biblical restrictions or requirements.Insisting on personal presences is a violation of love not a measure of spirituality.

Strawberry Moon
Strawberry Moon tonight. A moon with such a compelling name. I guess this is one I will not want to miss.
We have a rowdy gang in our neighborhood. A loud gang of Blue Jays just chased a Hawk out of the tree and down the street.
Thank you, Lord. It seemed like summer was never going to come this year and now here we are out strolling with the grandkids on the shady street in the cool of evening. Kids are buying “floaties” for their little, skinny, red arms and learning to dive. Fireflies hover over the evening grass and we are planning and packing for camp.
Power Tools to Craft a Christian Family (Sermon)
Today was Father’s Day. I had some stuff on my heart so I mixed it all up and put in into this message for the good people of Evangel. It was a wonderful day. Gideon Massengil set up the platform with power tools and a saw horse for a pulpit. That gave me an excuse to preach in Levis. I could get in the habit of that. Here it is for you. I hope it blesses you and it inspires you to build something beautiful and lasting with the tools God has given you.
The kids put together a video for me for Father’s Day. I have included it here because I am so thankful to the Lord for Lois and for each of them.
