Current Thoughts

Autumn is always a time that I am reminded of the brevity of life and how fragile it is. My friend Pastor Dan Cummings has been journaling from his bed of affliction. It would be worth your time to read-though his most recent thoughts. Here is one that really made me stop and think:

“7. As I get older I would rather listen to God than talk, I would rather listen to Him than “study” Him – He is no academic subject to be mastered – He is a person to be loved – theology must end in doxology…”

Pray for Dan, his family, and Five Points Church. Cherish life. Live for eternity, and may all your theology end in doxology.

Have you heard the rice myth? When poor little birds eat rice their little tummys swell and they die in writhing agony.
Read all about it. Isn’t it curious how many of the same “earth conscious” people that worry about little bird tummys and litter–labor with all their might to pass legislation and elect people to ensure that murder and dismemberment of the unborn remain legal?

Here is an oft-requested link from the kenpierpont site with twenty questions to open the heart of your child. Some use these questions on a multiple-day retreat, some in an hour-long meeting. One dad I know… who is a great dad… keeps them in his wallet and uses one question every time he drives one of his children to a practice or an event. Smart guy. If you use these questions, remember that when you understand your child’s heart the real work is planning responses to their heart needs… not just verbal responses, but projects together that help them and show your devotion to them.

It was cool today and there was a hint of color in some of the trees around southeast Michigan. One thing about fall I like is the appearance of Mums in fall colors!

September 8, 1978 was a Friday. It was an interesting day for me. Jeff Tokar asked me if I wanted to golf at a lighted par-three golf course. I didn’t have a date. I didn’t have anything better to do. At that point in my life I had only golfed once or twice. I golfed poorly.

Across from the campus where I lived was a little pizza shop. We stopped in. It was empty. While we were waiting for your little dollar squares of pizza a young woman walked in.
