Faithful as Daffodils in Spring

I took this picture this morning before the little flowers had their heads up. Soon they will be stretching toward the sun.

It’s been raining on and off for a couple days, but these are the soft April showers that bring May flowers. I’ve never been here in the spring of the year before. Yesterday morning when I turned off Pennsylvania onto the church property I noticed a row of daffodils all along the south side of the building. You can see them when you come on Sunday.

One day, I don’t know how many years ago, someone, I don’t know who, got down on their hands and knees and buried daffodil bulbs in the ground. Now every year – when spring pushes back the tyranny of winter – those daffodils wave hello and tell us that once again, as always, God has kept his promise of spring. They still may have to shake off a little bit of snow this weekend but like good Michiganders, that won’t keep them from doing their job.

I have noticed some others who are faithfully at their tasks this week at Evangel, too. I have been especially encouraged and inspired by the unusual devotion of the pastoral staff, the office and building staff, the volunteers working in the Guiding Hand Pregnancy Refuge Center, and the deacons here at Evangel. Many, many behind-the-scenes hours have been invested in the work of the Lord here this week. Every night this week the church lights have been on past 10:00 p.m. while someone ministered, counseled, witnessed, worked, deliberated, decided, organized, prayed, or served the saints in some way. I noticed most of it, but God has promised never to miss anything.

For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. (Hebrews 6:10)

Many here have devoted themselves to the ministry like the household of Stephanas did. I urge you, brethren you know the household of Stephanas, that it is the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints. (1 Corinthians 16:15)

I thank God for those who are serving here on this consecrated corner of Telegraph and Pennsylvania especially whoever to was who planted those daffodils –
