Our first week living in the Character Inn is complete. When we arrived a group of young people on the Inn staff were singing to welcome us. Our family sang back to thank them. They have been working hard to familiarize me with the operating systems and procedures.
This week Child Evangelism training continued here. Saturday one neighborhood children’s Bible club drew thirty children. Friday night one of the Verity students came through the dining room and reported that Pastor Shoemaker and some students had gone down the street to a teen hang-out to witness. We stopped what we were doing and prayed for them. In a couple hours they were back talking excitedly about the experience. Their hearts were burdened for young people they met. They have an invitation to return to the teen club to sing. We would like to invite the teens to the Inn soon to continue the conversation.
Saturday evening when I came into the Inn the Marcel Trutza family were sitting in front of the huge fireplace in the lobby. The Trutzas are originally from Romania and now make their home in Chicago. Marcel was playing the guitar and his daughters Ruth and Eunice were playing mandolins. Mom was with them reading her Bible. They blessed me with a personal performance of “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Count Your Blessings.” I counted them as one of my blessings. My heart was joyful as I climbed the stairs to bed. I think I’m going to like it here.
