Imagine a little boy at the county fair. He’s gets on the airplane ride. They fasten his seatbelt. He has a sober look on his face. He’s flying the airplane. The ride begins. His little plane goes in circles. His parents and grandparents are shouting and waving as he goes by as if he is Charles Lindberg leaving to cross the Atlantic by air for the first time.
His hair blows in the wind. His family smiles and shouts and takes pictures, but he is not laughing. He is intense. He is focused. He is a pilot, flying solo. He must concentrate all his powers to keep his aircraft aloft.
He has discovered there is a lever. If he lifts the lever the plane will rise. If he lowers the lever the plane will descend. On the dashboard are decals of complex instrumentation. There is a flashing light that means nothing. There is a yoke that turns nothing. He grasps it with both hands and banks around the circle. With furrowed brow he works the buttons, the yoke and the lever. .
Finally the ride comes to an end. The little boy climbs out onto the wing as if he just returned triumphantly from the moon, or as if he just completed a sortie defending London from the Luftwaffe. His heart pounds and his hands tremble as if the whole flight depended on him.
Most people I know have a hold on this life as if the whole thing depended on them. Their hearts pound, their hands tremble, and they are working the levers in a desperate attempt to keep their life aloft. But God is at the controls. He rules the world with an overriding providence. He is sovereign over all things, and for those who are under the protection of the New Covenant, ratified by the blood of Jesus, no ultimate harm can come. All things work together for them. (Romans 8:28-39) Since God is for them, it doesn’t matter who is against them.
If the Sovereign God defends you, no weapon can succeed against you. No enemy or difficulty can overpower the blessing of the Lord secured by Jesus on Calvary.

So much of the time we are out there in this world trying to do this LIFE all by ourselves. God must be out here yelling, “don’t you know I’m here, I’m here to help.” We need to Stop, Look and Listen!!!
