I love to preach on the Psalms. One of my favorites Psalms is Psalm 139. Early this summer I was asked to speak at my brother Kevin’s church in beautiful Higgins Lake, Michigan. This weekend I have also been re-reading The Living Great Lakes by Jerry Dennis. Jerry is a great Michigan writer and the Great Lakes are a great subject.
I discovered a little autobiography of Vance Havner last week entitled “Three Score and Ten.” It’s a treasure. Vance Havner preached all over the country and wrote about a book a year for over twenty-five years. I have most of them, but I have never been able to get my hands on this one. I am enjoying it now.
When I was asked to do the job I currently have I knew it was humanly impossible for me to do what needed to be done. I told Mr. Gothard so.
I said, “I feel I am inadequate to do what you need me to do.”
He smiled and said, “Well, good. That way you will have to rely on the Lord.”

These pictures are of me (Ken Pierpont) and a litte girl named Lois Gail Hatton, when we were both about six years old. We wouldn’t meet for another twelve or thirteen years.
