I have a pastor friend who is hurting. After years of pastoring the same church he was betrayed by a near associate and the church he spent his entire ministry building split leaving him devastated. Within a few months he had a major physical set-back. I spoke with him on Christmas Eve. He is a wounded man.

Good Things?
When I got out of bed this morning I sensed the Lord put a question in my heart. “Is your heart a treasure of good things?” Jesus said; “How can ye, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure in his heart bringeth forth good things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth evil things…” (Matthew 12:34-35)

Thanksgiving Week 2005
Friday night the family did a concert at Bethel Baptist Church in St. Clair Shores. Sunday night we returned from a weekend in Shipshewana, Indiana where we sang and preached at Emmanuel Christian Fellowship. We were hosted by the Robert Weaver family. It was a nice weekend. On Saturday we had a little time to explore the village of Shipshewana. The whole village was glowing with Christmas lights and ringing with carols. We strolled through the village, sampled the good “Amish-style” food and spent some time resting by the fire in the inn where the people graciously hosted us. Sunday we sang and preached and ate together.

Scalloped Corn
Fall has lingered on this year as long as I have ever seen it do, like an old friend who hates to leave. We hate to see him go and keep coaxing him to stay one more night. There was still brilliant color in many trees on my birthday the third of November and I never remember seeing that before. I just considered it a personal birthday present from the Lord. Reluctantly we will have to say goodbye to fall this week and watch him go out of sight around the bend of the road. At night if you listen closely you can hear winter coming on his heels.

My prayer is that my boys always remember that I delight to be with them more than anyone else. We had an unforgettable time in Wyomning. This morning was picture perfect.
