I heard a preacher this weekend. He is not for everyone. His eyes are piercing. He is grave and serious. He has some unique mannerisms. His primary appeal is not to the emotions.

Catastrophe in the Bathroom
When I was a boy I got into a lot of mischief. I like that word, mischief. It has an innocent sound to it. Sometimes I got in trouble for the mischief I did. Sometimes I didn’t get caught. Other times I got in trouble for things I didn’t do. Sometimes I was blamed for things over which I had no control. Some days my life just took an ugly turn and one bad thing led to another like falling dominoes.

This Week (10-24-2003)
It’s an unseasonably warm blustery night. We just got in from evening church. It was a good day. The little church is full every Sunday. Over two hundred are attending. Well, it’s Thanksgiving week, one of my favorite weeks of the year. Holly just got in with the rest of the Eternal Vision Development Team. They had been visiting the Ruth Stewart’s family in Canada this weekend. Ruth is the coordinator of the Eternal Vision program.

Knoxville 2003
When we were in Knoxville this summer we bumped into Doug Phillips. We were both speaking in the same building. When I told him I was a regular reader of his weblog he immediately took a picture of the family and posted it to his weblog… Here is the photo.
Closing the Doors of the Church
Sitting in my study one day about sixteen years ago talking with Dorothy Hall as I often did. She had a story to tell. I think if she hadn’t told me the story would have died with her. She was the custodian of the church. I was the pastor. I loved to talk with her. She tended the flowers around the church, kept the place clean and kept me informed about things a young pastor needed to know. I was a newcomer. She had known most of the congregation all her life. She was a dear, loyal friend to me and to my family.
