My sweetest childhood memories are of simple things like the tire swing in the big oak out front, playing catch with my Dad, and swimming in the creek. Another of those simple things was chasing fireflies on the lawn as night fell on a summer evening. The bugs only had a small light but they were especially brilliant because of the dark backdrop of the night sky.

At The Finish
Saturday I ran a half-marathon in Ludington, a nice town on the west coast of Michigan. All the Pierpont men participated in either the half-marathon or the 5K. Chuck, Dan and Wes ran the 5K. Kyle and I ran the long run. It was beautiful. It was sunny and cool at race time about 58 degrees. A perrrr-fect day on my favorite lake.

Effingham
Lois and I married in September. We moved into a cozy two-bedroom apartment in the upstairs of a farm house in the Ohio countryside. We found a small church and got jobs. I sold furniture. Lois worked at a Fotomat booth. Our plan was to work until spring and then move back to Springfield, Missouri to continue our preparation for ministry.

Dad’s Birthday
May 17th Dad (Kenneth F. Pierpont) turned 70. We all gathered at my brother’s home in Kalamazoo for a beautiful evening in honor of Dad.

Keeping the Picture in Focus
When Bud and Charlotte were young there was something missing in their lives and they didn’t know what it was. They sometimes left their three small children alone at night and went out dancing and drinking. Eventually they separated and then divorced. Charlotte had a man friend.
