I was sitting in my study working on a project a couple weeks ago when the secretary put a call through from the hospital chaplain. There was a family in need. I man had died. The family had recently relocated here from the south. They were requesting a Baptist preacher. I drove to the hospital and met the family. A widow of about twenty minutes was trying to say good-bye to her husband.

Irritating Neighbors
I have irritating neighbors. I would so much rather live in the country were you don’t have to worry about neighbors. These people are the worst neighbors we have ever had.

Lame Excuse Land
Listen to these classic excuses for not attending church:
– I just feel closer to God in the out-of-doors.
– I don’t think you have to go to church to worship God.
– The church is full of hypocrites.
– My parents forced me to go to church when I was young.
– I used to be very active. I guess now I’m just “burnt out.”
– We just get with our family and have home church.
– Sunday is my only day to sleep in.
– They pay me extra to work on Sunday and I need the money.
– All churches are different. How do you know which is right?
– We’re planning to attend, we just haven’t got around to it yet

Harold Hill’s Watermelon Story
Harold Hill told me this story himself. He loved to tell it. After he told me the story if he asked me if I had heard it before I always lied and enjoyed watching him tell it again. It was either true or he had told it so many times that he had the details down pretty well because he always told it the same way.

Retirement
Al and Betty are retired. They have been retired for years and they are spending their retirement years in a unique way. Like many who retire, they bought a travel trailer to rove the county. But unlike many who retire they had no intention of taking it easy.
