A Dog’s Christmas

December 19, 2009 Filed Under: Current Thoughts

Hazard wore himself out running around the Christmas tree farm. When we got home he acted like the tree skirt was just for him.

Christmas?

Christmas has been prostituted in America, like many other sacred things. Some believers have chosen not to celebrate Christmas at all. Here is an interesting note I found by John MacArthur on the subject: [Read more…] about Christmas?

Christmas Fasting

December 15, 2009 Filed Under: Current Thoughts

PumpkinPieA few years ago I fasted for about ten days before Christmas. It was torture. I found an entry in my journal that was humorous to read:

It is quiet and the family members are spread all over the Inn this evening. I am alone in the living room in my comfortable chair enjoying the warmth and our beautiful Frasier Fur tree. I am on the fourth day of a ten-day fast. Everywhere there are good things to eat. At brunch this morning there were waffles and fresh fruit with whipped cream, hash brown potatoes, and eggs over easy. Within a few hours I was drafted to drive to the Grand Traverse Pie Company where everyone had coffee and berry pie and chicken pot pie.

I called in a pizza order and it just arrived for the family. A little while ago Heidi walked through the lobby with a pumpkin dessert with whipped cream. Kyle hss ground and brewed some fresh coffee. Good food is everywhere—everywhere.

I have not eaten since Tuesday night.

Celebrate the First Snowfall

AustinTree

I am of the firm opinion that one should always celebrate the occasion of the first snowfall of the season. It spit snow yesterday and I was right on the fringe of breaking into celebration, but it didn’t stick. It was really not a very impressive snowfall, so it cannot be considered the first snowfall of the season. They said we could expect a couple inches of snow this afternoon, but I am about to close up my study for the day and winter night is falling and we have not had a flake of snow all day.

In the winter of 1991 we lived in a country home nestled in a pleasant valley on a small farm situated on a dead-end road. It was in the heart of God for us to live there for a few important years when our older children were small. After dinner one winter night Lois promised to make cookies if I would drive into Danville for butter, or milk, or flower, or sugar—the details escape me. Hazard Look-alike

Christmas Yorkie

Melody Carlson has written a book called; The Christmas Dog. I have not read it yet but if I were to judge a book by it’s cover, I would really want to read this one. This picture is taken from the cover of the book and it is an exact replica of our Hazard. It makes my heart smile whenever I see it. Check it out here.
