Things I Learned in Mexico

May 13, 2009 Filed Under: Current Thoughts

tpIn large parts of Mexico they do not stock the bathrooms with toilet paper. This is something you might want to know in case you ever need to go – . to Mexico. If you need to go, bring your own bathroom tissue. I think it would be a good idea if youth groups from America took all the toilet paper they waste vandalizing their youth pastor’s house and donated it to missions. There you would have young people making a contribution to international good will, contributing to the beauty of the neighborhood, stimulating the economy, and keeping off the streets and out of trouble. And then maybe youth pastor’s wives wouldn’t be so grumpy from losing sleep.

How Embarrassing

In the “How Embarrassing” Category: Lawn Chairs. Some lawn chairs are better than others. On the way to speak at a camp a couple summers ago I tried out a beach chair. It wasn’t very high-quality. How do I know, you ask? I tested it. I set it down in the isle of the store and sat down on it. Immediately it collapsed on the floor. I decided I would keep looking for a chair of a little higher quality. They just don’t make lawn furniture like they used to. Quality being what it is these days I would recommend that you always test drive your lawn chair before you buy it. Somewhere someone is going to get a real laugh when they watch that little episode on the security tape.

Ginger and Goulash

May 11, 2009 Filed Under: Current Thoughts

I grew up eating my mother’s version of goulash. After Lois and I married we used it to keep the kids full. If you look at them now, they are probably about thirty percent goulash. We all love it. When the children were small we would make a big vat of it for an evening meal. When we were done the kids would all pitch in on the clean-up. [Read more…] about Ginger and Goulash

Women Who Make Satan Shudder

evangel2Here is my Mother’s Day message. I hope you enjoy it. I dedicate it to the memory and honor of Grace Pierpont, Charlotte Shipley, Jane Pierpont, Allene Hatton, and Lois Pierpont.

Garrison Keilor says all that in Lake Woebegone, Minnesota all the women are strong. Here is a story about a woman who would not quit.
