Don’t Ignore Me
One evening our car broke down and we coasted into motel parking lot in Bowling Green, Ohio. We got a room for the night. I would repair the car in the morning. We had been waiting to eat in order to break up the monotony of our trip so the family was very hungry. Our first-born, Kyle and I hiked out in search of food. Our venture took us to a Burger King Restaurant. As we walked up the manager was just locking the door. Undiscouraged we walked around to the drive-thru window. The sign said it was open all night. I stood for a long time at the speaker waiting for someone to take my order. I couldn’t get the attention of the cashier.

Usually I speak to the students in a combined Riverfront Character Inn and Verity Education chapel every Tuesday morning at 7:00 a.m.
I am preaching every Sunday and every Wednesday evening at Byron Baptist in Byron, Michigan about twenty miles south west of Flint. They are seeking a pastor.

My Favorite Advice for Evangelism
If you really love people you will care about where they will live for all eternity. For someone to be right with God they must understand the message of the gospel and believe that the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ was the full payment for their sin. But how do you get that message of the gospel to people who don’t understand why it is important?
That is where my tip comes in. Here it is without any fanfare. This is the best evangelistic tip I know. In a simple sentence this is the best advice I can give you about how to influence the eternal destiny of another person. Here is my favorite evangelistic advice:
“Love them ’til they ask you why.”
If you want to get a hearing for the gospel, don’t try to over-manipulate the conversation so that you can corner them with your rhetoric. Don’t memorize a slick sales spiel and unload it on a stranger before he can object. You don’t have to marshal complex arguments and answer difficult objections. Just do this: Love them and keep on loving them until they ask you why.
Even if the person you want to influence for Christ is a total stranger you can love them by showing genuine interest, asking questions about them and listening to them.
You will be surprised what a powerful idea that is. Just love them ’til they ask you why.

Protection
When I was growing up bullying was common and it seemed that teachers knew it was happening and considered it a normal part of child development. Where I went to school you there were many options for after-school sports. There was basketball, football, wrestling, golf, chess club and of course cheerleading. It seemed to me like the other popular sport was chasing me home from school or arranging to beat me up. Sometimes it seemed like there were people who were trying to earn a letter in bullying. I got beat up on the way home from school regularly. Some of those stories to this day are painful to recount.

We are on our way back across the State of Michigan from our Director’s meeting at IBLP Headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois. It was a beautiful weekend. The sun shines brightly on the snow. Lois is my driver this week. She’s a steady woman.
