Sometimes you can be enjoying a beautiful, mundane afternoon and be plunged into a heart-rending crisis within a few seconds. That happened to us one quiet spring afternoon a few years ago. I was walking out across the yard enjoying the laughter and play-sounds of the children coming from the other side of the barn.

I’ve always had trouble getting my oldest son Kyle to lay his hair down real conservative-like. Now it looks like it’s going to be one of those generational things. This is a picture of my grandson Kyle KENNETH Pierpont. Looks like he’s not going to make the Bob Jones catalog cover either.
You can see other cool pictures of Kyle and read his Dad’s stuff here. I am diggin’ on the striped shirt. Those things have been in since Opie Taylor.

Every day I am grateful to God for my mom and dad who encouraged me every day of my life to serve the Lord every day of my life. I started public speaking, teaching, preaching ministry when I was fourteen years old. This is a picture of my very first public teaching responsibility. I was assigned to teach the missionary story of Hudson Taylor by Child Evangelism Fellowship for VBS. It was at Blessed Hope Baptist Church in Huber Heights, Ohio. A significant part of my work right now is coaching young men to preach. A couple of my sons and other young men in the church will be preaching for Talents for Christ this year. I will be speaking at a Communications Seminar in Dallas later this month.

John MacArthur’s Pastor’s Conference is being broadcast live. MacArthur is willing to say some powerful and courageous things few others are willing to say. If you get a chance this is a valuable opportunity to listen in on a great conference. If you can, get a copy of John MacArthur’s opening message.

Six or eight inches of snow fell this evening while we were getting to know new friends. It was a delightful evening, listening to stories of how God reaches into hearts. Later, at home, we started a fire and we all gathered to enjoy watching Saving Sarah Cain, based on Beverly Lewis’ novel, The Redemption of Sarah Cain. I once drove all the way from Flint, Michigan to the Indiana Amish Country because one of Beverly Lewis’ books was available there and the girls wanted to read it. I love stories about how God gently draws people back to Himself. In a way, He has done that to me so many times. That’s one of the things I love about Him.
