For years Kyle (my first-born son) and I have talked about that moment when he drives away with his bride. There were many tearful times when he wondered how that would ever happen. But Saturday afternoon it did.
When Kyle drove away with his bride I had a intense within that nearly made my heart burst with joy. Kyle and I have used a little hand gesture for many, many years to say good-bye. He looked over to me as he accelerated away and flashed that little sign. I watched the car until it went out of sight choking back tears of joy.

The Wedding!

Kyle and Elizabeth memorized their vows and recited them to each other.

These pictures were taken by our friend Isaiah Mays.

Kyle and I have used this little hand gesture for many, many years to say good-bye. Seconds after this picture was taken my son and his beautiful wife drove off into their lives together. My heart nearly burst with joy. It did seem that it was only a short time ago I drove away from the church with my bride. Then it was just yesterday that we brought him home and set together and wept at the wonder of having a son. Now he has plunged fully into the mystery and wonder and joy of marriage with Elizabeth.
They are obviously deeply in love with eachother. Monday they leave for a honeymoon in the Carribean. God is good. He was so very good to Lois and I, two very undeserving sinners, to gift us with such a fine son and to fill our lives with such joy for these past twenty-five years. I find my heart praying this morning for Kyle and Elizabeth to know that same love.
The Couple
Kyle and Elizabeth will be married on Saturday at Trinity Church in Lansing at 12:30. You can get directions HERE

“No, Dan, I really am going to have to pass this time. I promised my wife I would have the garage clean this weekend. She is having a garage sale next week and it looks like something exploded in there. I’m going to have to leave the clubs in the trunk this weekend. I’ll have to take a rain check. Maybe next time I can join you.”

Chuckie’s Pants
Years ago Lois went to visit her mother for a week. She took the younger children with her and I kept Kyle with me. Kyle was about seven or eight. Chuk would have been about four. We were living in Ohio. I drove Lois and the little ones to Michigan and then Kyle and I drove home. When we got home I told Kyle to go to his room and get ready for bed and I went to the kitchen to fix something to eat. Kyle and Chuk shared a room. A few minutes later Kyle came into the room crying. I said, “What’s wrong, buddy?”

Open Letter to MOM
I might as well make my letter to my mother today an open letter. The Scriptures command me to honor my mother. The closer I get to my dear Lord and the longer I walk with Him, the more I see that the commands of Christ are so sweet. What precious commands he gives to do things that bring such joy and fulfillment to such a deep place within us. So here is my way of obeying the fifth commandment today. This is the letter I just e-mailed to my mom, Jane Pierpont. My eyes are still wet with happy, grateful tears as I write these words.
