On Saturday night I am using a stand-up desk in a quiet corner of the house to do my final preparations for my messages. It is simple, uncluttered, and uncomplicated. I have already done my library spade work earlier in the week. I have the books and sources on the ‘net, on my laptop and in my Bible in my quiet corner. I try to stay off the ‘net as much as possible so I can keep my “head in the game.”
It is on Saturday night and Sunday morning that I try to stimulate my own heart with passion for what God has given me to preach to the people who gather on the Lord’s Day. I think my heart into the text and pray, and I try to think about the people. Sometimes, to clear my heart I will take a drive and pray, or I will take a walk, or both.
In January I am going to preach a series of messages on the Bible. I hope to inspire the people to build a daily habit of reading, study, memorization, and meditation on the Word of God. I can’t think of anything that will ultimately be more helpful. I am going to share biblical truth about the power of the Bible and practical ideas for Bible study and mediation.
