We once had a dog we called Freddie. I can’t remember why we gave him that name… in fact Freddie wasn’t a him at all. Come to think of it Freddie was adopted from some neighbors who moved away. She looked a little like a squat German Shepherd.

‘Tis The Season

Wes and Hope kicked off the Christmas season with a couple Rudolf noses. These are handy in thick fog. We have never lost a child in thick fog who was wearing one of these noses.
The Duct Cleaners
The other day we were visited by a couple young men who claimed to be with the Flint Duct Company. They looked a little suspicious. Holly alertly called me to the front desk. I met them and asked them who sent them. They gave me a name I didn’t recognize. I said, “Have him call me. I didn’t ask for anyone to look at the ducts.”

Knoxville 2003
When we were in Knoxville this summer we bumped into Doug Phillips. We were both speaking in the same building. When I told him I was a regular reader of his weblog he immediately took a picture of the family and posted it to his weblog… Here is the photo.

Closing the Doors of the Church
Sitting in my study one day about sixteen years ago talking with Dorothy Hall as I often did. She had a story to tell. I think if she hadn’t told me the story would have died with her. She was the custodian of the church. I was the pastor. I loved to talk with her. She tended the flowers around the church, kept the place clean and kept me informed about things a young pastor needed to know. I was a newcomer. She had known most of the congregation all her life. She was a dear, loyal friend to me and to my family.
